For all you Shonda Rhimes fans, the fates of your favorite Shondaland series have been revealed. ABC announced which shows they’re renewing and which one received the axe.
Let’s kick things off with the flagship series. Grey’s Anatomy has been picked up for two more seasons, bringing it to Season 17. Ellen Pompeo, whose contract was to expire for Season 16, has tacked on another year to her contract to match the renewal. The series is currently averaging 10 million viewers during its 15th season.
With the renewal, three actors have been promoted to series regulars next year. They are Chris Carmack, Jake Borelli and Greg Germann.
“Chris, Jake, and Greg have been recurring for us as guest stars and have popped as fan favorites,” Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff said in a statement. “We are excited to continue revealing their characters and we are beyond thrilled to welcome them to the Grey’s Anatomy family.”
Also receiving good news was Grey’s spinoff Station 19. The firefighter drama received a Season 3 renewal. It’s generating 7.5 million viewers during its sophomore run.
Though it struggled this season, How To Get Away With Murder received a Season 6 order. During Season 5, the Viola Davis series only averaged 5.1 million.
Not so lucky was the legal drama For The People. The alphabet network dropped the axe on the struggling series starring Britt Robertson.
