All Adam Rippon wanted to do at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics was make Reese Witherspoon proud. When he won a bronze medal this weekend for the team figure skating event, he did just that.

It all started when the Hollywood star tweeted Rippon was the number one reason to watch the Olympics.

Rippon, who has an excellent Twitter presence, had the best reply, of course.

He said her opinion was right (naturally) and also proposed a movie idea to the actor and producer.

‘You (played by you) tweet me in the middle of the night at the Olympics and I (played by me) die immediately. Thoughts?’

The first figure skating event of PyeongChang 2018 was the team event. All four styles — men, ladies, pair, and ice dance — were featured to gain points for a country’s chosen team.

Thanks to Rippon’s stunning performance, Team USA earned the bronze medal last night (11 February).

After the skate, Rippon spoke about the night.

‘There are so many emotions when I step on the ice. I want to represent my country to the best of my abilities,’ he said.

Then he added: ‘I want to make Reese Witherspoon proud.’

So, did he?

You bet.

The night of the event, Witherspoon tweeted he was incredible.

This morning, she responded to the question if Rippon made her proud.

‘You make me so proud!’ she enthused. ‘Keep making us all so happy!’

Team USA’s number one fan

Rippon isn’t the only Olympian Witherspoon is cheering on.

Also during last night’s team event, Mirai Nagasu became the first female US figure skater to land a triple axel in the Olympics.

Witherspoon was very enthusiastic about it.

Nagasu, meanwhile, called Witherspoon her hero and wished she was her mom. Witherspoon returned the sentiment in kind.
