The power of the Super Bowl!!!
His fifth studio album wasn’t exactly embraced by critics. Neither was his Super Bowl LII Halftime show. Most, including my friends and I, described it as ‘meh’ personified. Would it have killed him (or his ego) to bring on a live guest performer? Didn’t matter to his fans. Man Of The Woods topped the Billboard Top 200 chart. It marks his fourth LP to do so.
According to Billboard, the album earned 293,000 equivalent album units in the week ending February 8. 242,000 of which were in traditional album sales. It marks the biggest debut by a man since Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN which debuted at No. 1 on the May 6, 2017 list. That album moved 603,000 units and 353,000 in traditional album sales.
Only time will tell if JT’s latest collection can spawn a No. 1 hit single. “Filthy” debuted and peaked at No. 9 on the Jan. 20-dated Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Supplies,” technically a teaser track, hit a high of No. 71 while his latest “Say Something” with Chris Stapleton entered the chart at No. 9 but has fallen to No. 17.
