CNN anchors Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper are not holding back in their criticism of Donald Trump.
Both journalists addressed the United States president’s recent remarks about immigrants and ‘shithole countries’.
According to various reports, the president on Thursday (11 January), when discussing places like Haiti and various African nations, asked this question: ‘Why do we want all these people from “shithole countries” coming here?’
He also reportedly asked why the country ‘needs more Haitians’. He followed this up by saying the US should take more people from places like Norway.
Trump denied making the comments, but it hasn’t stopped people from coming down hard on him.
One such person was Lemon in an impassioned report last night.

Lemon begins by saying he and other people have been trying to tell the American people, Trump has exhibited ‘bigoted behavior’ and ‘kept up the racist rhetoric throughout the campaign and now while he’s in the White House’.
‘His supporters made his excuses,’ he continues. ‘I can hear them now going, “Oh, Don, Donald didn’t mean that, Donald isn’t a racist.” How many examples do you need of it? But he is a racist.’
At this point, he’s only just started.
‘And for all of you who over the last two years have uttered that tired, lazy, uninformed, uneducated, ignorant response of calling me and others who point out racist behavior “racist,” you know what you can go do?”
He then takes a dramatic pause.
‘I can’t say that. But you can go read a book, a history book, because you might learn that people from some of those “shithole countries” were slaves who were brought here, by force, to help build this country.
‘You might also do some self-examination. What does it say about you, that no matter what, you continue to make excuses for this man. Doesn’t that make you just as bad, if not worse, than him?’
Anderson Cooper talks about Haiti
Elsewhere on CNN, Cooper also addressed Trump’s comment, specifically focusing on Haiti.
“Let me be clear…. the people of Haiti have been through more, withstood more, fought back against more injustice… than our President ever has” Anderson Cooper choked back tears as he reflected on his relationship with Haiti, and its people https://t.co/3arEalkKOM

Cooper explains he spent a lot of time in Haiti following the massive earthquake that took place eight years ago today.
‘Like all countries, Haiti is a collection of people. It’s rich and poor, well-educated and not, good and bad. But I’ve never met a Haitian who isn’t strong,’ he says with conviction.
‘You have to be in a place where the government has often abandoned its people.’
He continues: ‘Let me be clear tonight, the people of Haiti have been through more, withstood more, and fought back against more injustice than our President ever has.’
Cooper starts choking up when discussing the earthquake. ‘I was there when a 5-year-old boy was rescued after being buried for more than seven days.’
